Flower beds on an Isle of Wight seafront, which were vandalised overnight into Saturday (July 20), have been replanted following outrage from residents.
As previously reported, plants were left strewn over the ground on Ryde Esplanade, on the stretch of path and road between the bus station and Ryde Superbowl.
Councillor for Ryde Monktonmead and Ryde Town councillor Karen Lucioni told the County Press the damage represented a clear “lack of respect.”
Cllr Lucioni said it was a common misconception that CCTV does not work in the area, and she asked police to check it in the hope of finding the vandals.
Today (Monday, July 22), the IW Council confirmed it had replanted the wooden planters.
A spokesperson said: “It's unfortunate when we get such vandalism, but we know the overwhelming majority of residents and visitors to Ryde love to see the summer flowers along the seafront.
“Our parks officer working with contractor John O'Conner arranged for them to be replanted first thing this morning.”
