After adverse weather put paid to last year's event, organisers were more determined than ever for the show to go on this time round.
Hundreds, if not thousands, of Islanders, both young and old, lined the streets to watch Newport's Main Carnival wind its way through the town.
Ahead of the 7pm start from South Street, the procession assembled at 5.30pm at Church Litten, with judging at 6pm.
From floats and farmers, to bands and Brownies, there was plenty to see and enjoy.
Among the highlights were four vintage American police cars, which made the journey from the mainland for the event.
The parade also included Island favourites, such as Medina Marching Band, Ventnor Comic Jazz Band, Vectis Corps of Drums, FaT Samba, royalty and community floats and much more!
During the day, St Thomas’s Square hosted live entertainment and music, including the American police cars, Reading Scottish Pipe Band, plus an indoor market within Newport Minster.
In addition to the Main Carnival, Newport's Illuminated procession will take place on Thursday, August 22.
