A motor cruiser fire, with a man and woman onboard, prompted an emergency Isle of Wight response today (Thursday, July 18).

The alarm was raised to HM Coastguard when the craft was south of East Bramble buoy.

Cowes RNLI lifeboat was sent at 10.35am, and, upon arrival, found that the fire, believed to be of electrical origin, had already been put out by the crew, using two on-board extinguishers.

Lifeboat crew members went aboard the 35-foot vessel to carry out their own check.

With the engine out of use, the cruise was towed by the lifeboat to Trinity Landing in Cowes.

There, it was met by Island firefighters and the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team.
