EMERGENCY service teams, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, are responding to a serious crash in Blackgang this evening (Wednesday).

Firefighters and paramedics are among those called to the scene on Blackgang Road, near the Viewpoint Car Park.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the collision involved two motorcycles. 

One motorcycle rider was passed into the care of air ambulance paramedics, while the other was assessed to have sustained minor injuries. 

The two fire crews, from Newport and Ventnor, were alerted at around 6.40pm.

They were called at the request of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and helped tidy the scene and clear debris from the road.

Firefighters stood down at 8.10pm.

UPDATE: 

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has confirmed one patient has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.
