Each Island VI Form student designed and crafted a unique ballgown for a specific person, drawing inspiration from diverse thematic approaches.
The brief required the use of reclaimed and sustainably sourced fabrics to address the fashion industry’s issues with waste and exploitation.
The exhibition ran daily from June 27 to July 9 at Independent Arts in Newport, opening with a packed runway show on the evening of June 26.
For the first time, the event was livestreamed on Facebook, allowing a wider audience to appreciate the students’ work.
The event also featured a collection to support Independent Arts, raising over £100.
Course tutor Sarah Cox praised the students, saying: “The show and exhibition were a huge success; a direct reflection of the hard work and determination they have shown from the very beginning of the course.
“The creativity and individuality of their designs is remarkable, and we are so proud of each and every one of them.
“They all brought a fresh perspective and unique, innovative approach which resulted in stunning final pieces.”
The Island VI Form would like to thank Independent Arts, photography student Dan Orme and everyone who attended the runway show or exhibition.
A new cohort of students will begin the fashion and textiles course in September, and applications are welcome from any interested current Year 11 students.
