A WOMAN has suffered a serious injury following a major crash in Whippingham yesterday afternoon (Monday).

At around 4pm, police were called to the scene on Whippingham Road.

They were responding to reports of a collision involving two cars and a bus.

A 24-year-old woman suffered a serious injury, police can now reveal.

Yesterday, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service confirmed three ambulances, two ambulance cars, an operational commander and the air ambulance were all called to the scene. 

Firefighters used cutting equipment to release one casualty who was passed into the care of paramedics. There were at least two other casualties.

The road was closed for a substantial length of time, impacting traffic well into the evening, but has since reopened. 

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said there were two children on the bus, who thankfully did not sustain injuries.
