THE Isle of Wight’s floating bridge is still off this morning (Tuesday) after being suspended last week.

The service, between Cowes and East Cowes, was suspended at around 5.30pm on Thursday, July 11, following an electrical issue.

On Friday, the Isle of Wight Council said it was hopeful it would return to service ‘within 24 hours’, with contractors called in.

A launch service remains in place for foot passengers and cyclists.

It runs from 5am to 11pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and 6.30am and 11pm on Sundays.

The service is operated by the local authority and was designed to save an 11-mile round trip by road.

Earlier, on Tuesday, July 9, the chain ferry was suspended while replacement chain guide wheels were fitted before briefly returning to service.
