AN ISLE of Wight man accused of beating and throttling a woman has had all charges against him dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on the eve of his trial.

Brendan Bond, of Beauchamp Drive, Newport, was due to stand trial at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Tuesday, July 16.

The CPS has since dropped charges of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour, intentional strangulation and two counts of assault by beating, against the same person, between August 24 and September 17 of last year.

A CPS representative formally offered no evidence at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
