An Isle of Wight man, banned from visiting his ex-partner’s address, turned up within hours – immediately breaching his bail conditions.

Terence Perkins, of Culver Parade, Sandown, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 9 and pleaded guilty to breaching bail.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said the 39-year-old attended Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court the day before (Monday) on charges of criminal damage relating to his ex-partner’s home.

He had gone to his ex's address in Ventnor and threatened to ‘smash her house up’, before destroying a gate and a drainpipe.

Court heard that at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court, Perkins was granted bail, with conditions not to go to his ex-partner’s address, but, upon being released, boarded the ferry, travelled to Ventnor and went there anyway.

Ms Miller said Perkins, seen carrying two bags, arrived at the house several times between 2.45pm and 6pm and, when his ex-partner returned home from work, the police were called and arrested him shortly before 7pm.

Michael McGoldrick, defending, said his client’s relationship with his ex-partner was "not that great" when drink was involved.

Mr McGoldrick told the court Perkins accepted he went back to the address, but, after wearing the same clothes for a week, he wanted to change his clothes – which were inside his ex-partner’s home.

Perkins was granted bail, with conditions not to attend the address, not to visit Ventnor, not to contact his ex-partner and, if he wants to retrieve his clothes, to only do so with a police officer present.

Perkins will reappear before magistrates on August 2 to be sentenced.
