Islanders were treated to an unexpected glimpse of the Red Arrows over the Isle of Wight today (Thursday, July 11).

The world-renowned aerobatic team took to the skies above the Island at around 11.40am.

A thunderous roar could be heard as they soared through the air.

They were seen from Ryde, Newport and Totland, among other places.

The Red Arrows were heading to an air display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

They were making their journey from Bournemouth Airport, where they have been based.

The Arrows performed at Goodwood at 11.45am.

They are due back at the same time tomorrow (Friday) — so don't be surprised if you hear and see them again at around the same time.

At the end of last month (June), hundreds of people lined the seafront for their Isle of Wight Armed Forces Day show.

The aerobatics team put on a memorable show, twisting and turning in the cloudy skies above Ryde sands.
