The Isle of Wight floating bridge is out of service this evening (Tuesday, July 8) to allow for repairs.
The Cowes to East Cowes floating bridge will be suspended until around 11pm, while replacement chain guide wheels are fitted.
A launch service is in operation for pedestrians and cyclists during this time.
Yesterday (Monday), Cllr Karl Love said the ferry's guide wheels are not in the best of condition, contributing to the excessive noise and handling issues.
Eight replacement guidewheels have been ordered, and the first three have now been manufactured, said Cllr Love.
The IW Council, which operates the service, apologised for any disruption caused.
