AS ONE yellow weather warning for heavy rain across the Isle of Wight ends, another will follow into this evening (Tuesday, July 9) for much of the same. 

The national Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, which is active at 6pm and will run through until 3am tomorrow (Wednesday, July 10).

Here's what the forecast said: "After a generally cloudy day with showers, rain will be persistent and heavy at times, particularly so for hills and headlands exposed to brisk winds.

"It will lead to some impacts on travel and infrastructure.

"Most of the warning area will see 20-40 mm of rain, with as much as 60-70 mm possible for some areas.

"Rain should ease from the south during the night, clearing to scattered showers by morning."

The Isle of Wight Met Service has not yet issued a weather warning for rain, but has said there will be early rain, potentially very heavy at times, today (Tuesday), but easing to more showery outbreaks, with occasional drier spells during the afternoon, with low cloud and hill fog likely.

Temperatures will range between 17C-19C, with winds southerly 12-22mph and rainfall 2mm-8mm, with locally variable amounts.

  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely.
