A power cut has hit businesses and properties in and around Arreton and Hale Common on the Isle of Wight.

The outage has led to the closure of popular Island pub, The Fighting Cocks and zoo, Amazon World.

Posting on Facebook, the pub said it has been without power since 8.20am

A spokesperson said: "We were initially told that power would be restored by 9am, but unfortunately that has not happened.

"Therefore we can hope for the power to be on anytime, but at this minute, we are without."

Amazon World has also been shut.

A spokesperson for the zoo said: "Unfortunately we have no power across the whole site and surrounding area so we cannot open yet!"

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said the outage was first reported at 4.58am.

Around 29 postcodes and 68 customers in the PO36 and PO30 area have been affected.

SSEN engineers are on-site.

Power has been restored and The Fighting Cocks will be serving from midday.
