IT WAS a collaboration that delighted fans when Johnny Marr joined The Pretenders for two tracks at the Isle of Wight Festival 2024.
First, Marr performed his own set in the Big Top - holding the crowd in the palm of his hand like the icon he is.
His setlist was heaven for The Smiths fans with highlights including This Charming Man, Panic, Please Please Let Me Get What I Want and There is a Light That Never Goes Out.

Marr seemed cool about the gig, saying: "I think this has gone jolly well thank you, you've passed the audition".
Another highlight was Getting Away With It, by Electronica (better known as Marr, Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys and Bernard Sumner from New Order).
Headlining the Big Top on Friday was The Pretenders, led by cool cat herself Chrissie Hynde.
It wasn't long before Marr was on stage with them, for Back on the Chain Gang and Don’t Get Me Wrong.
Stand by Me was a stand out and crowd favourite, but sadly there was no Brass in Pocket on this setlist.
The Pretenders dedicated Kid to James Honeyman Scott, their late guitarist.
