FIVE crews of firefighters were sent to extinguish a large field fire.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called out to the fire in Appleford Road, Chale, at 7.03pm today (Thursday).

A water carrier and Land Rover were also sent to the scene.

The smoke could be smelt as far away as Sandown as it drifted north-east from Chale.
