THE winners of a prestigious Isle of Wight photography competition have been revealed at a special ceremony in Binstead.
The Focus-Ryde Imaging Group’s All Island Image of the Year event was held at Binstead Community Centre.
The competition, which was previously run by the now defunct Bembridge Photography Club, was taken on by Focus-Ryde in 2008.
Affiliates of The Southern Counties Photographic Federation from clubs across the Isle of Wight were all invited to submit their best image.
In previous years, the competition had been a ‘print-only’ event, except during the Covid-19 lockdown when it was held over Zoom.
However, this year, the format was altered to encompass two separate categories – one for printed images and one for projected digital images – and the whole evening was broadcast over Zoom for those unable to attend in person.
It was also recorded for those unable to tune in at the time.
The event kicked off at 7pm and was judged by Southern Counties Photographic Federation senior judge, Jon Mitchell, of Gosport Camera Club.
Up first were the digital images, of which there were 53 submissions.
After a great deal of appraisal, the selection was whittled down to three images.
First place went to Michael Wort of the Isle of Wight Photographic Society for his photo Expressions.
Second place went to fellow society member Carol Walker for her Floating submission, and third place went to Karen Dudley of Wight Vision Camera Club for her picture We All Smile in the Same Language.
Following a short break, the appraisals recommenced for the printed category.
A total of 27 were submitted, and first place went to Let the Nature of a Photograph be a Reflection of our Thoughts by Karen Dudley.
Second place went to Carol Walker’s The Beauty of Faded Tulips, and third place went to Karen Long of Wight Vision Camera Club for her Ray of Light photo.
Trophies and certificates were presented to the owners of the winning entries.
