A racist comment has been daubed on a car, another has been stolen and remains missing and further vehicles were damaged, in a spate of incidents affecting two Isle of Wight businesses.
Leslies Hyundai, on College Close in Sandown, has told Isle of Wight police of a break-in at its valet bay, where cars are prepared for service.
A spokesperson for the business told the Isle of Wight County Press a wooden door was kicked in and seven cars were vandalised, across the valet bay and forecourt.
The County Press understands the word 'Hitler' was graffitied on one vehicle, in the same week the Solent stops to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
The County Press has also been told a staff member’s car had a hole drilled into its lock.
A neighbouring business was also targeted.
A spokesperson said there was an office break-in, which saw car keys stolen.
One vehicle was taken and has yet to be found while another was abandoned nearby.
“One car was a customer’s, which came in last night because it was running bad. They obviously worked that out, abandoned it, and took the other," a spokesperson said.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "We are investigating a burglary which occurred at Leslies Hyundai in College Close, Sandown.
"It’s reported that some time overnight, into the early hours of this morning, the premises was broken into.
"A number of vehicles were damaged and spray painted.
"Enquiries remain ongoing."
