AN ISLE of Wight man punched a police officer in the face and kicked another in the knee after having ‘a little too much to drink’.

Neville Sheen, of Leed Street, Sandown, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, May 31.

The 52-year-old admitted two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker, and being drunk and disorderly in a public place, in Sandown, on May 16.

Prosecutor, Munayah Hassan, said police had been called to a report of damage being caused to a premises in Sandown.

She said Sheen was pointed out as the person responsible for the damage, and while resisting arrest, he punched an officer in the face and kicked another in the knee.

Bridget O’Hagan, defending, said Sheen had been struggling both physically and mentally.

She said he drank a little too much on the day and reacted badly.

Ms O’Hagan said he would benefit from some support and needed to address his alcohol consumption.

Sheen saw his case adjourned to July 19 and magistrates ordered that a pre-sentence report be drawn up.

He was granted unconditional bail.
