Isle of Wight-filmed TV show The Beast Must Die will not be returning for a second series, according to national reports.

The thriller was the first original drama to air on BritBox when it aired in 2021.

Set on the Island, the series featured a wide range of familiar locations and properties, as well as a cast of hundreds of local supporting artists.

Starring Cush Jumbo and Jared Harris in the lead roles, the series received generally positive reviews from critics.

It was reported in June 2021 that it would return for a second series, called A Sword in My Bones, with the focus being on Billy Howle's DI Nigel Strangeways and a new mystery to solve.

However, according to the Radio Times, that is now highly unlikely to happen.

The publication reports there have been some major changes behind the scenes, with BritBox closing down and becoming absorbed into ITVX.

ITV has confirmed to Radio Times that a second season is not in development for ITVX.

At the time, it was said that the second series would not have been based on the Isle of Wight.

The first season saw Cush Jumbo star as a mother left bereft by the death of her six-year-son in a hit-and-run incident.

Filming took place over several weeks last autumn, in a variety of Island homes, businesses, villages and towns.
