The main Isle of Wight road between Apse Heath and Lake has reopened following major traffic disruption caused by a burst water main.
Newport Road (A3056), between its junction with Ventnor Road and its junction with Whitecross Lane, for a distance of 1,692 metres, was closed at 2.30 pm yesterday (Monday).
As previously reported, a witness said the Tarmac was ‘breaking up in the middle of the road’ and water was 'pouring out', with residents in Lake reporting no or low water pressure.
Southern Water engineers visited the site, near Sandown Airport and Honnor & Jeffrey Garden Centre to carry out investigations.

Before Southern Water teams worked on repairing the six-inch burst water main, the decision was made to shut the road.
Diversions saw motorists travel via Whiteley Bank onto Victoria Avenue and through Shanklin, causing significant delays and tailbacks earlier today.
Newport Road has now reopened, with Southern Water reporting no issues in the area.
