Temporary traffic lights have been installed at The Graben in Ventnor, after a section of the road had to be cordoned off.
Traffic is heavy as a result, at the junction of Newport Road, Ocean View Road, and Gills Cliff Road.
The Graben is a notorious stretch of land between Upper and Lower Ventnor, which suffers with movement. Cracks can be seen on the road surface.
It is thought the latest works are by Southern Water, to replace water pipes underneath the road surface.
The road is scheduled for a hard closure between June 17 and 28, for sewer works.
The County Press has asked Island Roads for further information about the current issue affecting the area, and whether this will have any impact on the upcoming scheduled closure.
The added difficulty with any works affecting the Graben, is that the only way in and out of Ventnor is via that road, or through Whitwell, with most traffic going from the same junction while Lower Gills Cliff Road is closed.
The other main route into or out of Ventnor is Leeson Road, which has been closed since a major landslip in December.
