POLICE have confirmed a car collided with a telegraph pole in Newport.
Officers were called to Staplers Road at 4.24am today (Wednesday) following reports of a collision, believed to have been by a Ford Fiesta.

The telegraph pole was severely damaged and collapsed into the main road, with car debris strewn across Staplers Road.
The car came to rest a further 50m down the road, leaking oil.
No one was injured in the collision, say police.

The accident left around 40 properties in Staplers Road and neighbouring Heathfield Close, with engineers currently on site replacing the pole and trying to restore power as quickly as possible for affected customers.
A Scottish and Southern Electricity worker at the scene said the crash had destroyed the pole, which had "almost broke in two".
