A POPULAR Isle of Wight pub has rebranded, marking a major milestone in its journey and “the next stage of its evolution".

Union Street, Ryde’s much-loved fixture, Bar 74, is now officially FuBar.

Owners Dani Johnson and Sully Harriman say they can now provide an enhanced experience to patrons while still retaining the charm and hospitality the venue is known for.

The pair believe FuBar will “redefine nightlife in Ryde” through an “innovative approach to entertainment”, offering a vibrant atmosphere and a diverse range of music and events.

From intimate gatherings to lively nights out, including various classes and workshops, the venue is encouraging Islanders and visitors alike to enjoy its revamped space, which can also be hired as a private venue.

Speaking of the rebrand, owner Dani said: “This has been a long but incredible road, and we’ve managed to avoid the many inevitable potholes so far.

“It’s been so rewarding creating an inclusive space for the community to perform, meet, gather, engage, and have fun.”

“We have the support of some amazing people who have believed in us, and we have each other.

“Here’s to the rest of the journey. Cheers!”

“We want to really put this place on the map, building upon its previous musical history, which includes Lennon and McCartney,” said Sully.

In the 1960s, it's said the premises, then called Bow Bars and run by Mike and Bett Robbins, was frequently visited by The Beatles' stars.

Bett and Paul McCartney were first cousins, it's believed.

Fubar officially opened its doors on Thursday, May 16 with Ballyrags Comedy Club – the first of many events at the Ryde venue.
