BT Engineers are making urgent repairs, after a telegraph pole fell in Park Road, between Wootton and Whippingham.

Island Roads says a team from the phone company is on scene, on the cut-through which links Lushington Hill with Briddlesford Road.

Traffic is heavy on Fairlee Road and on the A3054, the Isle of Wight County Press has been told.

Adjacent routes remain open.

A police road closure is in place, about halfway along Park Road.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "At 10.34am, we were made aware of a telegraph pole that had come down and was blocking Park Road.

"No injuries have been reported and officers remain at the scene to assist with traffic control while the road is cleared by our colleagues at Island Roads.

"We would encourage road users to avoid the area if possible while the road is cleared."

Island Roads warned of an "immediate closure for Park Road, between its junction with Lushington Hill and its junction with Whiterails Road, Wootton.

"The closure is necessary due to a fallen BT Telegraph Pole and to enable BT to carryout urgent repairs."
