A popular and long-standing Isle of Wight card and gift shop will close its doors for the final time later this month.
Event, on South Street in Newport, has been a mainstay for Islanders for decades – having previously been known as Cards For Occasions.
The shop, which offers cards, balloons, party decorations and gifts, is owned by Paul Dack, who took over the business in 2009.
The lease for the shop is up for renewal and the decision was made not to renew, with Paul telling the County Press, “It’s time for a change.”
Paul has got to know a lot of people over the years, and thanks the ‘good, loyal customers’ who regularly used the shop.
He said: “We have got a lot of good, loyal customers. We want to thank them for their custom.
“They will be missed. It has been really good to know them.”
Paul added that he is looking forward to his 'semi-retirement'.
The provisional closing date is Saturday, May 18, but the shop may stay open until the end of the month.
“As much as can be sold, will be sold,” Paul said, with a clear out sale underway, offering all cards at £1 and 75 per cent off gifts.
