Work to rebuild the beach steps at a popular Isle of Wight attraction is underway following its closure amid landslip fears last year.
As previously reported by the County Press, the steps at The Needles were closed in December 2023 after concerns were raised about the proximity of further landslips and coastal erosion.
The IW Council was closely monitoring the steps, and the decision to close the steps with immediate effect was made on health and safety grounds.
Due to erosion, one set of steps and a landing near the beach had dropped, and there was not sufficient support underneath.
The Needles Landmark Attraction has today (Wednesday, May 8) confirmed that work on the new beach steps is underway.
A spokesperson said that weather depending, they “should be completed soon.”
Currently, the only way to access the beach is via the attraction’s chairlift.
