The organisers of this year’s Wight Proms Festival have unveiled a star-studded line-up for the much-anticipated summer event.
Under the theme of celebrating comedy, opera, drag, country music, sport, musical theatre, dance, and classical proms, the Festival promises a mix of entertainment to suit every taste.
This year’s Festival will take place from August 9 to 18 at Northwood House in Cowes, featuring a new logo and site layout.
Headlining festivities are renowned actress Miriam Margolyes, and the beloved Island favourites Plastic Mermaids, who will perform alongside a live orchestra in their only Isle of Wight gig this year.
Cricket enthusiasts will be thrilled to see the dynamic duo of Jonathan Agnew and Phil Tufnell, known as Aggers and Tuffers, as they bring a blend of sports commentary and entertainment to the festival stage.
Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK are in for a treat as Danny Beard and Scarlett Harlett, accompanied by host Tanya Hyde, will also take to the stage.
The Anthems Ibiza Orchestra will deliver nostalgic 1990s tunes from iconic artists like Fat Boy Slim, The Chemical Brothers and Faithless among others.
Musical theatre aficionados will be delighted by the presence of John Partridge, known for his role as Christian Clarke in EastEnders and his various West End appearances.
Joining him is John Owen Jones, famous for playing the roles in The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables, and Jenna Lee-James, who has just played Elsa in Disney’s Frozen on the West End.
This year’s line-up also includes Faryl Smith, who shot to fame as a 12-year-old on Britain’s Got Talent in 2008, family favourite Peter & The Wolf and the ‘World’s Best Dolly Tribute’ – endorsed by Dolly herself.
Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Billie Jo Spears, Glen Campbell and Patsy Cline tributes will also feature.
The Festival also aims to nurture young talent with Musical Theatre Workshops for children aged seven to 18.
Tickets for this year’s Wight Proms Festival go on sale Friday, May 10, with options for meet-and-greet experiences and donations to the Festival’s associated charity, Independent Arts.
