A 50-year-old has been arrested following reports of a man in a van performing an indecent act near a playing field in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary was called to Elm Grove, off Whitepit Lane, at 1.09pm on April 29.

Police received reports of a man in a van conducting an indecent act, near to Nine Acres Playing Field.

A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure. He has been bailed with conditions until August 1, while enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We are grateful to the community for reporting this incident to us, and continue to encourage anyone with concerns or information about suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhood to report this to police on 101.

"Dial 999 if a crime is in progress."
