WITH more heavy rainfall forecast for the Isle of Wight over the next three days, the Environment Agency has warned the Eastern Yar could flood again.
Yesterday, the Environment Agency issued a flood alert for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell and Bembridge, amid a forecast for up to 20mm of rain daily from today (Wednesday) through to Friday, May 3.
"If this rainfall affects the catchment, the river will maintain its responsive nature and levels could rise," the Environment Agency warns.
An update is expected at 10am this morning.
The Met Office has forecast rainfall for the Island from 3pm today and heavy overnight.
"The water levels throughout the Eastern Yar valley continue to fall slowly," the Environment Agency added.
Although water levels at Alverstone, Langbridge and Alverstone continue to fall, the Environment Agency says levels in Sandown remain high and falling very slowly.
"Flooding of Golf Links Road and Morton Common Road, Sandown, is ongoing, with ditches around Fort Holiday Park, Sandown, struggling to drain while river levels are high," the alert adds.
The Isle of Wight Council has sandbags available in the following locations:
- St Mary’s car park, Cowes
- Well Road, East Cowes
- Simeon Street Recreation Ground, Ryde
