A motorbike rider has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing into a taxi.
A taxi driver from Ryde Taxis chased the suspect to Wicks Close and held him until the police arrived, in the early hours of Sunday morning, following the crash.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.28am on April 21 to a report of a collision in Cross Street, Ryde.
"This involved a motorbike and a taxi.
"The motorbike rider, a 36-year-old man from Sandown, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving without due care and attention.
"He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue."
