AN ISLE of Wight motorist has been slapped with a hefty fine for failing to secure planks of wood in the back of his pickup truck.
The case of Frederick Colson, of Chale Green, Chale, was heard before Aldershot magistrates on Monday, April 15.
The 78-year-old admitted a single count of using a motor vehicle/trailer with a load which was insecure/in a position likely to cause danger, in Newport, on September 20 of last year.
The court heard he drove a Mazda on the A3020 Blackwater Hollow, which was carrying a load, namely ten large 2.5m long planks of wood.
The bench was told those planks had not been tied down and were free to move from side to side and overhang the vehicle.
Colson was fined £1,600 and ordered to pay costs of £110 and a £640 surcharge.
