Chris Offer, Brading:

I recently tried to post a comment on the social media platform Nextdoor, thanking people for recommendations for TV aerial installers.

It was instantly rejected on the basis that it was 'too similar to my last comment'!

Well, the last time I commented on the platform was a year ago and that was to seek recommendations for a mobile car mechanic.

So, presumably, judgement is now being made on the content of comments by an AI bot, that apparently has the power to reject them, according to an algorithm set by goodness knows whom, with no possibility of appeal.

I understand the use of AI to filter out hate speech etc, but I think that this is a very frightening development, which could seriously affect the principle of freedom of speech.

For example, a social media platform might only accept comments of one particular political leaning, or that tend to support or oppose a controversial argument, thus possibly giving a completely false impression of public opinion.

A very dangerous development, in my opinion.

I wonder if anyone else has experience of this or holds a view on it?
