IF YOU'RE a sucker for a fireworks display, why not head to Sandown seafront for the town's Easter Eggstravaganza this evening (Saturday)?
The grand fireworks display was rescheduled after Sandown Carnival Association's New Year event was cancelled due to bad weather.
Tonight's display, weather permitting, will be launched from the end of Sandown Pier at 7:30pm.
Sandown Carnival Association chairman, Paul Coueslant, said: “It was a big disappointment for everyone that we couldn’t stage the display on that rainy, windswept day at the start of January.
“Since then, we’ve been working with Sandown Pier and fireworks company Pains to give Easter crowds the chance to enjoy the spectacular occasion we had planned.”
For safety reasons, the display cannot be watched from the outside area at the end of Sandown Pier.
There will be road closures in place, for the safety of spectators, with Pier Street and Sandown Esplanade closed from 6pm until 8.30pm.
The road may reopen a little earlier, but only once the crowds have safely dispersed, say organisers.
Car parking is likely to be extremely busy in Sandown this evening, so be advised to arrive early for the display.
The closest public car parks to the event are at:
- St Johns Road
- Station Avenue
- The Heights
- Fort Street
- Dinosaur Isle
The event is free, but Sandown Carnival Association, run by volunteers, would welcome donations on the night to help meet the cost of staging events throughout the year.
For the best viewing spots, arrive early and find a space along Sandown Esplanade.
