HAILED as a blooming great success, Brighstone and District Horticultural Society Spring Show brought some seasonal cheer to all those who visited and took part.

Saturday's traditional show attracted more than 350 entries from 69 who entered — a figure "way above the committee’s expectations", said organisers, and well up on last year’s entries.
Held at the Wilberforce Hall and Scout Hut in Brighstone, entries were submitted in a wide variety of classes, which included flower, pot plant, vegetable, floral art, cookery, beverage, photography and handicraft classes, plus classes for children.
There were plenty of trophies and prizes up for grabs.
With a view to freshening things up and sparking more interest, the organising committee spent considerable time over the winter revamping of the spring schedule.
It included several new classes — particularly in cookery, which included the challenges of making Bara Brith and a vegan tray bake.
There were also some new floral art classes, where the two interpretative exhibit classes were themed on Desert Island Discs and 'Eggstravaganza', which resulted in some "very creative and interesting" entries.
Notably, Pat Wilson won the Best in Show trophy and Handicraft Cup for the quilt (pictured) she entered in the Any Other Handicraft class.
The Children’s Cup for Best in Show in the children’s classes, was won by Holly Price for her painted pebble with a spring theme.
Also, Sue Cox scooped the Floral Art Cup for best exhibit in floral art for her Desert Island Discs exhibit (also pictured).
There were refreshments on sale, as well as a raffle and book stall.
Quality plants were also on sale at the show, courtesy of Sandown-based Bramley Plants.
