THE West Wight community came together in an 'extraordinary display of solidarity and support' for a fundraising event in aid of building a new £120,000-plus skatepark in Freshwater.

The event, held at the Freshwater Memorial Hall last Friday, was an evening of entertainment.
It featured a screening of the adventure film, Savage Waters, together with live music from local teenage sensation, Martha Eggleton and friends, and rock band Hashtag.
There was also saw a raffle and online auction, with prizes donated by Island businesses.
The event, organised by Freshwater Parish Council, raised £2,000.
The existing skatepark, coming to the end of its life, has been kept running a little longer thanks to works carried out last year — but repairs and its upkeep have become increasingly costly.
Recognising the financial challenges of maintaining the ageing facility, the parish council is now seeking a more sustainable solution.
The plan is to build a new skatepark and pump track on Stroud Recreation Ground in the village, with Freshwater Parish Council leading the project, which will cost at least £120,000 to build, with funds raised through various community events and grants.
So far, around £9,000 has been raised.
"Last Friday's event showcased the strong community spirit and support for the skatepark project. It marked a significant step forward in bringing the project to life," said project lead, Paul Blackley.
