An Isle of Wight laundrette fire has prompted an emergency response to Ryde this evening (Monday, March 25).
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) was called at 6.10pm to reports of a blaze at Launderama on Marlborough Road, near Hope Road, in Ryde.
Four fire engines were sent to the scene from Ryde and Newport stations, alongside a command appliance and an officer.
Island fire crews were joined by colleagues from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Upon arrival, smoke could be seen billowing out from the laundrette.
An aerial ladder platform fire engine from Ryde station arrived at the scene but was not required, a HIWFRS spokesperson told the County Press.
The fire, located on the ground floor, has caused the 20 per cent of the launderette to be damaged, with 100 per cent damaged by smoke.
Crews remained at the scene for 45 minutes after the 7.13pm stop message to carry out safety inspections and wellness checks.
