Five young dancers from the Isle of Wight will fly the flag for England when they take part in an international competition this summer.

At the ages of just eight and nine, the girls will travel to the Global Dance Open Finals in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, in July.

After qualifying in an earlier competition, in Sevenoaks, Kent, Imogen Shephard, Diwata Vu, Aria Morgan, Lily Newnham and Auriella Adams, will go up against dancers from across the world, including from Italy, Spain, Australia, Canada and South Africa.

The girls, who train with Newport's The Starlight Academy, will compete in ballet, jazz, street dance and acro sections.

Dance teacher, Mary Bowdery, said: “I am so proud and thrilled that these girls have been selected to form part of the England team!

"Their hard work, passion and dedication has shown through.

"They are a brilliant example to all other young Island dancers that nothing is impossible.

“We would also like to thank our ferry travel sponsors, Red Funnel, for their continued support.”
