A car crashed onto its roof and blocked a rural Isle of Wight road, prompting an emergency closure earlier today (Thursday, March 21).

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were called at 11.20am to reports of a single-car collision.

The crash happened on Whitwell Road, on a tight section of the rural road between Southford Lane and Sheepwash Lane.

A silver Ford KA was the only vehicle involved in the collision.

The vehicle overturned onto its roof, causing significant damage and sending debris across the road, but police confirmed no injuries were reported.

Whitwell Road was closed by police this afternoon while emergency teams dealt with the incident but has since reopened.
