A FIRE which broke out at an Isle of Wight holiday park in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) is being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.
At around 4am, emergency service teams, including police and firefighters, were called to the scene at Lower Hyde Holiday Park in Shanklin.
Fire crews from Newport, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor were among those in attendance.
A campervan was described as “well alight”, and hose reels, jets, and two breathing apparatus were used to bring the blaze under control.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue said the vehicle was destroyed in the fire, which is believed to have been set deliberately.
Enquiries are ongoing, said Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
Earlier today, a spokesperson for Lower Hyde Holiday Park said: “Emergency services visited the park after reports of an incident, and we are helping with their investigations.
“As those investigations are ongoing, we can’t comment further.”
