Workers on an NHS site helped provide extinguishers, when fire broke out at a neighbouring business on Newport High Street, earlier today (Tuesday).
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue (HIWFRS) crews, from Newport, Ryde and Shanklin, were called to the scene shortly before 10am, parking in Pyle Street.
HIWFRS said a fire in an external ground-floor fan unit, at a High Street opticians, caused 'smoke logging'.
Its crews used the adjacent NHS mental health hub site, which has been under construction and is due to open soon, to access the affected neighbouring business.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hoses to put out the fire, before cutting into the roof space to check for any remaining hot spots, said HIWFRS.
Ventilation fans were used to clear smoke, and firefighters left shortly afterwards.
