A MOVIE and music fundraiser is being hosted in Freshwater later this month – in aid of Freshwater Skatepark.
The event – fixed for Friday, March 22 – will kickstart at 6.30pm.
Hosted as Freshwater Memorial Hall, guests will have the opportunity to watch the film Savage Waters, starring Charles Dance of Game of Thrones fame.
Doors open at 6pm, with skate movies from Wight Trash starting at 6.30pm.
Tickets are available on TicketLab here, and on a first come first serve basis on the night.
An online auction is running, and there will also be a raffle, with some amazing prizes already lined up from Canopy, Wight Trash, Surf Ears, Teemill, Mermaid Gin, Sugar and Spice Lingerie and Earth, Wind & Water.
After the movie, there will be live music from local Island skater Martha Eggleton, followed by Hashtag – a three-piece Isle of Wight band specialising in funk, rock and indie music.
Hashtag are set to perform until midnight, and a bar will be open to the side of the hall.
The skatepark is coming to the end of its life, with repairs and upkeep becoming increasingly costly.
In a bid to extend its life by another year, repairs were carried out last summer.
Recognizing the financial challenges of maintaining the aging facility, the council is now seeking a more sustainable solution.
The plan is to build a new skatepark and pump track on Stroud Recreation Ground.
Freshwater Parish Council are to invest £120K into the project, and are now looking at all avenues of community fundraising.
