PIPE replacement works by Southern Gas Networks (SGN) which have caused one of the busiest roads on the Isle of Wight to shut for several weeks, have been completed.
Island Roads have closed Briddlesford Road while SGN carried out the works on the main road, on the outskirts of Wootton.
The road is due to reopen by Wednesday the company has said.
The works, the replacement of metal gas mains with modern plastic pipe, is part of a £1.1 million SGN scheme.
During the closure, Briddlesford Road has been inaccessible between its junctions with Blacklands Lane and Briddlesford Lodge Farm.
Before that, Briddlesford Road was closed during carriageway reconstruction and strengthening works.
A spokesperson for SGN said: "Our work has now been completed and we’re in the process of reinstating the road surface and removing our equipment from site.
"All being well, the road closure should be lifted by Wednesday this week.
"We’d like to apologise to the local community and road users for any disruption caused while we carried out our essential works."
