An Isle of Wight man sent obscene messages and voicemails to his brother and his girlfriend after they refused to take him to say goodbye to a family member on hospital life support.
Frederick Edward Medway, of Atherley Road, Shanklin, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 27, and pleaded guilty to sending offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing messages.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, said the 32-year-old sent his brother messages and threats, including voicemails, on January 20.
Ms Miller told the court Medway’s brother’s girlfriend described him as ‘unstable and unpredictable’ and she ‘has been scared to leave her house’ out of fear Medway will find where she lives.
Oscar Vincent, defending, said his client is 'extremely vulnerable', after being involved in a ‘catastrophic’ road traffic accident in 2018, which left him with life-changing injuries.
At the time of the obscene messages, Medway’s relative had been taken to Southampton General Hospital and was on life support, with the family told to come and say their goodbyes, said Mr Vincent.
Due to his past injuries, Medway was unable to travel across the Solent on his own, and arranged for his brother to collect him.
Medway waited for two hours in the rain, but his brother did not arrive.
Medway will return to court for sentencing on April 12.
