First-time author Derrick Babington will read passages from 'Postie to Pirate' at Medina Bookshop, Cowes on March 7.

Mr Babington's book came about when the former postie and eventual sea adventurer was recovering from a life-threatening illness 12 years ago.

His voyage from postie at Ventnor in the 1970s to professional storyteller for Island schools and volunteer watch leader on Tall Ships is detailed in the memoir.

While writing the book Mr Babington found himself in hospital again two years ago and said: "I was not sure what the outcome would be so I decided to write the last chapter before I had completed the book, just in case."

Tickets are £5, refundable through book purchase, either in person, by phone at 01983 300044 or online at https://medinabookshop.com/event/postie-to-pirate.
