A popular Isle of Wight seafront promenade will be closed from Monday, March 4 for essential improvements amid concerns for safety.
Last month, the IW Council advised that work along the revetment between Sandown and Shanklin would involve clearing cliff fall debris from the walkway and improving areas where there is water constantly flowing across the promenade.
Due to 'constant vehicle and plant movements' during the works, the revetment will be closed until March 11.
An IW Council spokesperson explained, “Public safety is our top priority.”
SSE will also carry out ‘essential works’ along the revetment from March 4 and has imposed a three-week closure using its emergency powers.

Between the announcement and the closure today, a cliff fall blocked the steps leading from Littlestairs Road clifftop footpath onto the promenade.
The steps, which were popular with Island dog walkers, have become just the latest victim of the Island’s crumbling coastline.
