A 13-year-old Isle of Wight boy, who left another boy with a bloody nose after taking offence at a "derisory" comment posted about him on social media, has been sentenced.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at the Isle of Wight Youth Court on February 28.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting a boy and sending a threatening message to a girl on Snapchat.
The court heard how on January 10 police received a report of an assault at Church Litten.
Prosecuting, Liz Miller, said the victim was located by officers and found with a bloody nose.
Police were told he had been involved in a play fight, but this was not the case.
Ms Miller said the defendant followed the victim to Newport Bus Station after seeing him near McDonald's.
He proceeded to punch the back of his head, before they got to Church Litten and a fight ensued.
Ms Miller said around 12 punches could have been thrown.
Court was told the defendant also sent a message to a girl on Snapchat saying that "her boy was going to get it".
It read: "If he goes to the feds I'm going to shoot the little ***t and don't think I won't."
Defending, Oscar Vincent, said the build-up to the incident wasn't an isolated matter and there had been ongoing issues between the two boys.
Mr Vincent said the victim had uploaded a social media post with a "derisory" comment aimed at the defendant.
The boy wanted to know why it was made about him and the two had a chance meeting which turned into a fight.
He said the incident happened over a month ago and the boys have had no contact since.
Presiding magistrate, Paul Gane, said: "I don't want to see you again and I don't expect you will want to see us again either."
The 13-year-old saw his existing three month referral order, issued last month for assaulting an emergency worker and failing to comply with an exclusion order, extended to six months.
