An Isle of Wight man, with a fetish for ‘people laughing at his small penis’ while he commits lewd acts, has avoided a prison sentence after being caught sending sexual chats to a police officer posing as a schoolgirl.
John Quigley, of Barrack Shute, Niton, appeared before a judge at the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday, February 27.
Charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child aged under 16, the 55-year-old changed his plea to guilty on January 8, ahead of his trial.
Tim Devlin, prosecuting, said Quigley added a decoy 14-year-old schoolgirl on Snapchat under the profile Dave, 52, from the United Kingdom, via the Wink app.
Mr Devlin told the court Quigley started talking to the teenager on November 11, 2020 and continued until the end of the month.
During his chats, Quigley revealed that he had a fetish for tights and people laughing at his small penis while he masturbates, said Mr Devlin.
The prosecution said he asked the girl to send him photos of her wearing tights while also sending her images of his penis.
Mr Devlin said police were able to track the online communications to Quigley’s IP address in Niton.
Thomas Evans, defending, said his client, a soft-spoken man, was previously of good character with no criminal convictions.
The defence told the court Quigley had been a hardworking man, who had worked numerous jobs before stopping to look after an elderly relative.
Mr Evans said Quigley’s stress was further compounded due to the Home Office believing his wife should be deported, despite having a child together.
“It was a crazy period of behaviours, which is a complete aberration for an otherwise decent human being," said Mr Evans.
Judge Richard Shepherd described the incident as a “gateway offence,” which “leads to real children being abused,” but said Quigley had good prospects of rehabilitation when he fully accepts what he has done.
Quigley was handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, to include 45 rehabilitation days and 120 hours of unpaid work.
He has also been made subject to a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
