A popular Isle of Wight Indian restaurant — which has played host to billionaire businessman Richard Branson — has improved its food hygiene rating.

Following a reinspection at the end of January, Bahar Tandoori, on Cowes High Street, now boasts a four out of five, or 'Good' rating.

It follows an inspection in October when environmental health officers found major improvements were necessary and "generally poor standards", resulting in a one-star review.

After the Isle of Wight Council released the inspection report, the management at Bahar Tandoori apologised to its customers and said it had 'taken swift and decisive corrective actions' to address the issues.

Now in an update, the restaurant's management has said while it was aiming for the highest food health and hygiene - a five - the four reflects its commitment to improving and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety in its restaurant.

It said: "We would like to extend our gratitude to our dedicated staff who have consistently worked hard to ensure a safe and enjoyable dining experience for our valued customers.

"We are grateful to our customers for their support."
