FIREFIGHTERS have been called out to a telegraph pole fire in an Isle of Wight village this morning (Wednesday).
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called at 8.53am to Southford Lane, Whitwell, following reports a fallen tree may have caused a fire involving a telegraph pole.
Crews from Newport and Shanklin were sent to the scene.
Although there were no reports of smoke, a fallen tree may have damaged the pole, say the fire service.
Although it has not yet been confirmed if there is a link, there is a substantial power cut in the Niton and Whitwell area, which has affected 1,235 properties in the PO30 and PO38 areas.
