The Isle of Wight's floating bridge is out of service for at least a week, from today (March 4).

The vessel, which has been plagued with issues for a number of years, is once again grounded - this time for its annual refit.

The latest works to be undertaken include the replacement and inspection of various components including hydraulics, guidewheels and prows, as part of the periodic maintenance schedule.

It will also be an opportunity to refurbish the on board ICT system and prepare the vessel for its annual MCA inspection, the Isle of Wight Council said.

The works are scheduled to last only a week owing to maintenance undertaken in December 2023.

The council said it will be out of service for a week, with 'a view to resuming' at 5am on Monday, March 11.

A launch service for foot passengers will operate daily from 5am to 11pm with the exception of Sunday, March 10 when the launch service will commence at 6.30am.
